Stanthorpe Football kicks off the 2009 season next Tuesday night with the Men’s and Colts teams commencing their pre-season competitions. Football Stanthorpe Inc. As Chairman, Vic Pennisi, explained: “An early start to the premiership competition has enforced a change to the format of the pre-season comp. this year. Due to Tenterfield being unable to field Men’s and Colts sides it was requested at the end of last years season that four rounds be played in the Men’s and Colts premiership competition with the Ladies to remain playing three rounds – this means that the Men’s/Colts will play 16 fixtures and the Ladies 15 fixtures in 2009. Obviously the Ladies will start a little later but the draw has been structured so that all three teams play on the same day except for the extra games the boys have. The pre- season will not have a final this year due to
time constraints, so the winners will be decided by points and goal average if necessary. All teams will play two games so they have to make the most of their opportunities.” Vic went on to point out that: “The pre-season is really a vessel to ensure all teams are up and operating properly before the season commences – it provides coaches with an opportunity to assess new players and helps players gain some fitness prior to the season opener.”
